MELLOR ELECTRIC BUS
The Mellor Orion E is a fully autonomous electric minibus. The bus is fully compliant with UK passenger service vehicle regulations with a capacity for 15 seated passengers + 1 wheelchair. Vehicle capable of up to 50mph operation on public roads and can navigate urban and suburban routes.
The bus and our AV Level 4 CAVstar automated drive technology has been proven in operation in the Multicav deployment project operated at Milton Park, Didcot, as part of the MultiCAV multi-modal transport trial. Operated by First Bus, the service ran every day around the park and down to the train station, navigating public roads within the business and science hub. First Bus launched the service on January 23, 2023, enhancing mobility for the park’s 9,000 employees and the surrounding Didcot region.
The vehicle is now being redeployed to Cambridge where it will be run as a daily service by local operator, Whippet, on a route in West Cambridge connecting the Park & Ride to the West Cambridge University hub and the newer residential and light commercial developments in Eddington. The vehicle will be AV Level 4 (fully autonomous), but with safety driver as required by law currently.
